About The Kansas Christian Home

Our Vision

At Kansas Christian Home (KCH), we are called to care for aging adults – spiritually, physically and mentally.  By accepting that call, our staff and board of directors continually work to ensure quality of life for more than 180 individuals, each and every day. Our retirement facility puts all our focus on healthy bodies, sharp minds, and happy hearts for all our residents to give them a wonderful experience.

The programs offered here at KCH are designed to build relationships within the KCH community. It is, and always has been part of our vision, to foster personal relationships with our resident members and expand beneficial experiences for all. KCH is a living, working, growing, thriving family where each member - established or new - is welcome, cared for, and valued.

History of KCH

The commitment to caring for the aged was clearly demonstrated by the Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in Kansas with the opening of Kansas Christian Home (KCH) in Newton, KS in 1960. KCH was founded under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. James Tilsley, who secured significant support for the opening of a senior care center. For more than 50 years, KCH has remained committed to providing each individual they serve with the highest quality services for independent living, skilled nursing and home health services. The residents benefit from living in a safe, caring and comfortable environment where each individual is treated with dignity and respect. KCH has a mission-driven approach that focuses on person-centered care to ensure the best possible quality of life for each individual served.

FAQ’s

Do you offer meals for Independent Residences? What is the cost?
We do offer meals. Kansas Christian Home offers 3 meals a day at a cost of $5.00 a meal for breakfast and supper and $6.00 a meal for lunch. These meals are served in either the Apartment Dining Room, or there is also a dining room for Independent Residents in the main building. If you need a meal delivered to your home due to illness/injury the cost is just $1.00 extra.

Can you buy or rent homes at Kansas Christian Home?
Kansas Christian Home has both options available. We have a variety of homes and apartments that are rentals. The rest of our properties are available for sale.

Can I bring my pet?
Yes! However, there are a few rules. A resident may bring up to 2 pets, and neither one can weigh over 25 pounds. The resident must be able to handle the care of the animal on their own and must clean up after the animal.  There is a one-time deposit for pets that is non-refundable.

Do we furnish our own TV in the Health Care Center and what does it cost?
If you are a skilled nursing resident, we provide a TV and a recliner.  We have satellite TV and you will receive 26 channels for $10.00 per month. The $10.00 will be included in your monthly statement.

Do you have 24 hour emergency care available?
Kansas Christian Home offers a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) to all of our independent residents. This system provides the resident with a pendant that can be pushed in an emergency and will alert our nurses to a problem. The nurse will then call and if there is no response will respond to the house. Also, our nurse’s station can be reached by phone 24 hours a day.

How long is the waiting list for a private room in the Health Care Center?
We will put you on the waiting list for a private room the day you come in. We cannot promise how long it will take, but we usually move people into a private room anywhere between two weeks and a few months.

What do we need to bring when moving into the Health Care Center?
We ask that you bring at least six changes of clothes. We furnish the linens including pillows, bedspreads and blankets, however, if the resident has a favorite blanket or pillow they can certainly bring them.

Can we hang pictures?
You bet! We encourage family members to make the space or room as much like home as they can. Bring your own recliner if you want to.

Do you have visiting hours at the Health Care Center?
No, we have no visiting hours. We encourage family and friends to visit at any time and also show them the coffee garden and encourage them to use that room with the resident.

What happens if I need to move to your Health Care Center?
Any resident of the Independent Living Campus is given first priority in our Health Care Center.  Also, there are price breaks and consideration given to our residents, whether it’s a temporary or a permanent stay.
